Conference Agenda PDF Print E-mail

This conference provides an introduction to some of the crucial concerns facing the mineral exploration and mining industry today, as well as an opportunity to discuss best practice and the future challenges facing the global mining industry.

Governance

The conference will build on the themes of industry accountability and building good governance, introduced at the 2010 event. With speakers representing government, industry and civil society, topics such as improving legislation in developing economies and developing industry policy on government relations will be covered in this session.

Community

Now an integral part of exploration and mining, community engagement is essential in achieving a ‘licence to operate’. In this session, delegates can hear key examples of how strong social policies can enable business. From the first communications between exploration staff and host communities to community resettlementand staff health and safety, social responsibility is a huge and important aspect of the mining industry.

Physical Environment

From pollution and waste management to mine reclamation and biodiversity protection, there is no denying the mining industry’s footprint on the physical environment. The conference will look at some of the major developments taking place regarding the environment from the government, industry and civil society perspective.

Financing

New to the 2011 event, MPE will delve into the growing trend of green and ethical financing. As banks increasingly look towards backing environmentally and socially responsible projects, standards and benchmarks are being placed on the mining industry. Presentations from the mining and financial sectors will offer key advice about what is now expected, and how companies can access financing options.
